The Denver Program of PHWFF would like to extend an invitation to other Project Healing Waters programs who want to establish their own virtual fly rod building class.

The Denver program runs seven, first-time fly rod building classes between September and April. The class is limited to 10 students. Each class is three consecutive Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 9:00 P.M., plus an optional Saturday and Sunday workshop.

Assistant Program Lead Pat Higgins would like to share the knowledge and resources they have learned over the past six years with any program that would like to get an established fly rod building curriculum up and running.

“During the pandemic, we held all of our classes virtually and successfully finished 58 rods,” Higgins said. “We have been conducting these classes for now going on our sixth year and have a lot of experience in teaching first-time fly rod builders.”

Higgins would like to offer his support to any program wanting to start fly rod building, either virtually, in-person, or both. He can talk with other Program Leads about what all is needed to setup the class for in person and virtual, as well as the equipment needed to run the class. Higgins is even willing to help other programs teach their first virtual class!

Programs wishing to partake in these classes need to have the following logistics in place before class for each participant. A fly rod building coach (someone that has built at least one rod in the last six month), a fly rod kit and a tool kit. Programs that don’t have equipment for fly rod building and need to procure it, can contact Pat Higgins for assistance in writing an order to send to HQ.

The Participant and Coach must be committed to being at each class, as missing one will severely hamper them in the next class.

Programs that would like to participate: You will need the participants’ and coaches’ names and email addresses at least 15 days prior to the class to verify them in the CRM and send them the Zoom invite link and class related material. All PHWFF program requirements must be met, according to the current PHWFF COVID standings and procedure.

For more information, you can contact Pat Higgins by emailing him at Patrick.Higgins@phw.cmpse.dev
